5B, Geneva Bible, Robert Barker, London, 1599.

Notes

The Geneva Bible, first published in 1560, was a significant early English translation of the Bible. Produced by Protestant exiles in Geneva during the reign of Queen Mary I of England, it became renowned for its extensive marginal notes that offered interpretative commentary from a Reformed perspective. The Geneva Bible was the first English Bible to use verse numbers, making it user-friendly for study and reference. Its accessibility and scholarly features made it immensely popular, influencing later translations, including the King James Version of 1611. The Geneva Bible remained a favorite among English Puritans and was the version carried to America by the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower in 1620.
