Notes

The King James Bible (1611), also known as the Authorized Version, was commissioned by King James I of England to create a unified English translation for the Church of England. Over 50 scholars worked on it, drawing from previous translations like the Tyndale Bible, Coverdale Bible, and Bishops’ Bible. The King James Bible became the most enduring and influential English translation, celebrated for its majestic language and literary quality.

Illustrated editions from the 1800s often featured elaborate engravings and illustrations depicting biblical scenes, designed to enhance the reader’s engagement and understanding of the scriptures. These editions were prized for their artistry and were popular as family Bibles, often including genealogical records and historical annotations.
