Note

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a whimsical and surreal novel by Lewis Carroll, first published in 1865. It follows a young girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastical world filled with strange creatures and bizarre adventures. The story is renowned for its playful use of logic, language, and dream-like sequences that challenge reality, making it a beloved classic for both children and adults.

Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There is the sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, also written by Lewis Carroll and published in 1871. The story picks up with Alice stepping through a mirror into a world that is a reverse of her own, where everything is flipped and turned upside down. Like the first book, it features absurd characters and logic-defying situations, including the famous chessboard-themed adventure, where Alice is a pawn trying to become a queen. The novel explores themes of identity, transformation, and the passage of time, continuing the surreal and playful narrative style that made the first book a classic.

Lewis Carroll, the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, was inspired to write Alice in Wonderland during a boat trip in 1862 with Alice Liddell and her sisters. Alice, the real-life inspiration for the main character, was the daughter of the Dean of Christ Church College in Oxford, where Dodgson was a mathematics lecturer. He told her a story during the trip, which sparked her interest, leading him to expand it into the full novel. The real Alice was an imaginative and curious child, and her relationship with Dodgson, who was a close friend of the family, became the subject of much speculation later in life. Though their friendship was unusual for its time, Alice's influence on the story is undeniable, with her inquisitive spirit reflected in the character's adventures.
