Notes
Mother Goose’s Nursery Rhymes: Tales and Jingles is a beloved collection of traditional nursery rhymes and short stories, often attributed to the fictional Mother Goose, who is considered a symbol of folk tales and children's poetry. The book compiles some of the most popular rhymes that have been passed down through generations, such as “Jack and Jill,” “Humpty Dumpty,” “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” and “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep.” These simple, rhythmic verses are designed to entertain young children while also teaching them basic concepts such as numbers, animals, and everyday activities. The rhymes are often playful and whimsical, with many featuring elements of fantasy, rhyme, and repetition, making them ideal for engaging young readers.
Throughout the years, Mother Goose’s Nursery Rhymes has been published in numerous editions, with different illustrators adding their artistic touch to the stories. The collection’s enduring popularity is a testament to the timeless nature of nursery rhymes and their role in shaping early childhood literacy and imagination. The stories and jingles in Mother Goose offer not only entertainment but also help to introduce children to the rhythms of language and the art of storytelling. This compilation has become a staple of children's literature, cherished by parents, educators, and young readers alike.
Description
Scarce children’s book with over 100 illustrations and vignettes chromolithographed by Emrik & Binger. 46 pages. Illustrated paper covered boards with blue cloth spine. New endpapers. Clean and tidy board with a little edge wear. Curiously, the title page (and half title) state that the title is “Old Mother Goose’s Nursery Songs” rather than rhymes etc. Clean interior with little darkening/marking to the edges only. Note that this is a 19th century book with come rhymes and language that are now deemed offensive to members of certain races and cultures. Fine condition overall.
