Notes

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was written by Lewis Carroll, the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, and first published in 1865. The story originated from a spontaneous storytelling adventure that took place on July 4, 1862, during a rowing trip on the River Thames. Dodgson, who was a mathematics lecturer at Christ Church College, Oxford, accompanied the Dean of the college, Henry Liddell, and his three daughters, including Alice Liddell.

The story was told by Dodgson to the girls during the outing, and young Alice Liddell, the second eldest of the Liddell sisters, became the inspiration for the character of Alice. Alice, fascinated by the tale, asked Dodgson to write it down for her. In 1864, Dodgson did just that, expanding the tale into a full manuscript titled Alice's Adventures Under Ground. He later revised and expanded it into the version we know today, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, which was published in 1865, with illustrations by John Tenniel.

The story of Alice, who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastical world, was groundbreaking for its playful use of language, absurd logic, and whimsy. It has since become one of the most beloved children's books of all time, capturing the imagination of readers of all ages. The tale's rich fantasy elements, memorable characters, and satirical commentary on Victorian society and logic have kept it relevant for generations.
