The first book in the series. The story follows the four young March sisters, Jo, Amy, Meg and Beth. It follows the young women from adolescence to adulthood. Loosely based on the author and her three sisters.  In this adventure, Alcott examines themes such as "domesticity, work, and true love, all of them interdependent and each necessary to the achievement of its heroine's individual identity." The book has been adapted numerous times for stage and screen, the most recent one being the 2019 version. Directed by Greta Gerwig, starring Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlen, and Timothée Chalamet.
