First edition, first printing [1843]. Charles Dickens. First edition mark of "Stave 1" on Table of Contents and first stave page. Rebound (ca. 1899 by Wood, London) in dark green leather with gold and red holly leave embossing in all four corners of the front and back covers. 2.5 inch scratch on back cover. Leather wrap and gold embossing on inside front and back covers. Marbled endpapers with foxing from leather interior wrap. Previous owner's bookplate on inside front cover. Sun fading on spine that has resulted in the leather now being light brown. Spine features gold embossed title, author, year, and four holly leaves with a green cloth bookmark. Gilded edges in very fine condition. Original, hand colored illustrations are vibrant and intact throughout.
