Confessions of a Crap Artist is a 1975 novel by Philip K. Dick, one of his few works outside the science fiction genre. Written in 1959 but published posthumously, the book offers a satirical, semi-autobiographical look at suburban life and interpersonal relationships in mid-20th-century America. It follows Jack Isidore, an eccentric and obsessive man (the titular “crap artist”), as he navigates life with his domineering sister Fay and her troubled marriage to Charley.

The novel explores themes of alienation, delusion, and the dynamics of power within relationships, showcasing Dick’s sharp wit and talent for psychological insight. Description

Burgundy canvas boards with gilt lettering on the lower right hand corner of the front cover and spine. Extremely minimal bumping to the corners and top and bottom of the spine. Bookplate of Linda Levy on the first blank leaf with an additional bookplate that reads “COMPLIMENTS OF THE LOVER,/ I MEAN AUTHOR”. Also a typewritten letter dated September 25, 1975 from Dick to Levy laid in the front cover. the letter tells Levy he has arranged for her to receive a copy from the publisher and includes a reference to ‘Vincent,’ a recurring element in their correspondence built on a Don McLean song which inspired in part his short story ‘Goodbye Vincent,’ which began as a letter to Levy.” Very fine condition.
