Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus was written by Mary Shelley and first published in 1818, marking a foundational moment in both science fiction and Gothic literature. Conceived during a summer gathering in 1816 with poets Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron, the novel was inspired by discussions of science, life, and reanimation.
