Notes
Guy Fawkes is famously known for his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a failed conspiracy to assassinate King James I of England and overthrow the Protestant government. Fawkes, along with his co-conspirators, planned to detonate barrels of gunpowder beneath the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament. However, the plot was uncovered, and Fawkes was arrested on November 5, 1605. His subsequent trial and execution have turned him into a symbol of resistance against oppression. Today, his legacy is commemorated annually on November 5th with bonfires and fireworks, marking the event known as Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night in the United Kingdom.
