Notes
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth installment in J. K. Rowling’s beloved Harry Potter series and marks a significant turning point in the young wizard’s journey. During his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry is mysteriously entered into the dangerous Triwizard Tournament, an international magical competition traditionally reserved for older students. As he faces deadly challenges, unravels sinister mysteries, and navigates the growing complexities of adolescence, the wizarding world moves toward a darker and more dangerous era. Blending magical adventure, suspense, humor, and coming-of-age themes, The Goblet of Fire expands the scope of Rowling’s imaginative world while laying the groundwork for the series’ increasingly mature final chapters.
First editions were released simultaneously in Britain and the United States on July 8, 2000 and it became the first Harry Potter novel to win the Hugo Award, receiving the honor in 2001.
J. K. Rowling (born 1965) is a British novelist whose creation of the Harry Potter series transformed contemporary children’s literature and established one of the most successful publishing phenomena of all time. Born Joanne Rowling in Gloucestershire, England, she studied French and Classics at the University of Exeter before working in various positions, including teaching English in Portugal. The idea for Harry Potter first came to her during a delayed train journey in 1990, and she spent several years developing the magical world of Hogwarts while navigating personal and financial difficulties. After numerous publishing rejections, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was accepted by Bloomsbury and published in 1997, beginning a seven-book series completed with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007. Her novels have since sold more than 600 million copies worldwide and been translated into 85 languages, inspiring a vast literary and cultural legacy that includes films, theatrical productions, and generations of devoted readers.
