Notes
The Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling, is one of the most successful and influential literary works of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The series consists of seven books, beginning with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (1997) and concluding with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2007). The books follow the coming-of-age journey of Harry Potter, a young wizard, as he confronts the dark wizard Lord Voldemort and uncovers truths about his past and the magical world. The series has sold over 500 million copies worldwide and has been translated into more than 80 languages.
Early printings of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone have become highly sought after by collectors, particularly copies from the earliest impressions issued by Bloomsbury in the late 1990s. While the true first printing—limited to only 500 copies, most of which were distributed to libraries—remains among the most valuable modern books, subsequent early impressions also carry collector interest as part of the novel’s original publication history. A 30th impression, printed within the early wave of demand that followed the book’s initial success, represents one of the earlier commercial printings produced as the series rapidly gained popularity. Though more common than the first few impressions, copies from these early print runs are still valuable early impressions produced in the formative period of the Harry Potter phenomenon.
