Thumb Bibles grew in popularity in the 20th century, especially as printing technology improved, making it easier to produce smaller, more portable versions of the Bible. Their rise can be attributed to the increasing demand for convenient, on-the-go access to scripture, as more people sought compact, easily navigable Bibles for personal use, travel, and quick reference. The thumb index system, which was introduced in the late 19th century, made these editions particularly desirable because it allowed for rapid and efficient navigation through the Bible’s many books and chapters.
Description
Brown leather binding with embossed details. Gilt lettering on the spine. Illustrated. Entire bible. Fully intact though the lower part of the upper joint is beginning to fray slightly. Fine condition overall.
