b 1744. Index of Prohibited Books from the Vatican Library. Including Galileo. Printed in Rome.
Notes
The Index of Prohibited Books (Index Librorum Prohibitorum) was a list of publications deemed heretical or contrary to morality by the Catholic Church. Established by the Vatican in 1559, the Index aimed to prevent the spread of ideas considered dangerous to faith and morals. It included works by authors like Galileo, Voltaire, and Rousseau. The Index was abolished in 1966, but it remains a significant historical example of censorship and the Church's influence on intellectual life.
