Notes

The King James Bible (1611), also known as the Authorized Version, was commissioned by King James I of England to resolve conflicts among existing English translations and unify the Church of England. Over 50 scholars worked on it, using earlier translations like the Tyndale Bible and Geneva Bible as sources. Renowned for its poetic and majestic language, it became the most influential English Bible, shaping religious, cultural, and literary traditions for centuries.

Family Bibles from the late 1700s were large, ornate volumes designed to be displayed in homes and passed down through generations. They often included spaces for recording family events such as births, marriages, and deaths, making them cherished heirlooms. Many featured elaborate engravings, decorative bindings, and additional content like maps, genealogical tables, and commentary. These Bibles reflected both religious devotion and the growing importance of family heritage during the period.
