-King Richard II*
j, Thumb book, Historical Play by William Shakespeare.
Notes
King Richard II, who reigned from 1377 to 1399, was a monarch of the House of Plantagenet in England. Ascending the throne at just 10 years old, his reign was marked by internal strife, including the Peasants' Revolt of 1381 and ongoing power struggles with the nobility. Richard sought to assert absolute royal authority, which led to conflicts with powerful barons, most notably his cousin Henry Bolingbroke. His autocratic style and failure to manage these conflicts ultimately resulted in his deposition by Bolingbroke, who became King Henry IV. Richard II's reign is often seen as a prelude to the Wars of the Roses, highlighting the fragile nature of medieval kingship and governance.
