The Malleus Maleficarum (Latin for Hammer of Witches) is a 15th-century treatise on witchcraft written by Heinrich Kramer, a German inquisitor. First published in 1487, it became one of the most influential texts in promoting the witch hunts across Europe. The book outlines the supposed nature of witches, their alleged crimes, and detailed methods for their identification and prosecution. Though widely criticized even during its time for its misogyny and lack of scholarly rigor, it was used for centuries to justify the persecution of countless individuals, particularly women, accused of witchcraft.
