5W, John Milton, The Aldine edition of the British Poets 2 vol set 1878
Notes
John Milton (1608–1674) was an influential English poet, intellectual, and civil servant, best known for his epic poem Paradise Lost. Written in blank verse, Paradise Lost explores themes of free will, temptation, and redemption, recounting the biblical story of humanity's fall from grace. A deeply religious and politically engaged figure, Milton also wrote extensively in defense of individual liberty and freedom of speech, as seen in his famous pamphlet Areopagitica. His works have left a lasting impact on English literature and thought.
