Notes
Napoleon Bonaparte, a towering figure in history, was a military genius and statesman who rose to prominence during the French Revolution. Born in Corsica in 1769, he rapidly climbed the ranks of the French army, eventually seizing power in a coup d'état in 1799 and proclaiming himself Emperor in 1804. His military campaigns reshaped Europe, with victories at Austerlitz, Jena, and Wagram, among others, spreading French influence across the continent. However, his ambitious expansion eventually led to his downfall, as his forces were defeated in Russia and at Waterloo. Despite his mixed legacy, Napoleon's reforms, such as the Napoleonic Code, left a lasting impact on law and governance across much of the world.
