5b 1880 Charles Darwin, John Murray Publishing, Sixth Ed

Notes

On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, first published in 1859, is a foundational work in the field of biology. It introduced the theory of evolution by natural selection, explaining how species evolve over time through variations that enhance survival and reproduction. Darwin gathered evidence from his observations during the voyage of the HMS Beagle, as well as from numerous scientific studies. His work challenged contemporary beliefs about the fixed nature of species, suggesting instead that all living organisms share common ancestry. The book revolutionized the understanding of biology, influencing scientific thought, and sparking debates that continue to this day.
