The 1560 Geneva Bible was a significant English translation of the Bible, produced by Protestant reformers in Geneva during the reign of Queen Mary I. It was the first English Bible to use numbered verses and included extensive marginal notes that reflected Calvinist theology, making it popular among Puritans. Unlike earlier translations, it was designed for common readers and became the preferred Bible of many English-speaking Protestants, including the Pilgrims who brought it to America. Its influence persisted until the King James Version was published in 1611.
