Notes
The Dragon in the Sea (also known as Under Pressure) by Frank Herbert is a psychological and suspenseful sci-fi novel set in a future where Western and Eastern powers are locked in a resource war over oil. The story unfolds aboard a submarine tasked with covertly stealing oil from enemy reserves. As the crew faces external threats and the claustrophobic tension of their confined environment, paranoia and psychological strain escalate. Herbert explores themes of trust, human resilience, and the psychological toll of war, offering a compelling precursor to his later works. This book was written almost a decade before the publication of Dune.
