Notes
"The Hobbit" is a fantasy novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, first published in 1937. It follows the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, a reluctant hobbit who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Alongside a group of dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield and the wizard Gandalf, Bilbo encounters trolls, goblins, elves, and giant spiders, discovering his own courage and resourcefulness. The novel is renowned for its rich world-building, charming narrative, and its role as a prelude to Tolkien's larger Middle-earth legendarium, particularly "The Lord of the Rings."
