The Magazine of Botany and Gardening was a British publication first issued in 1834 and running until 1849. Description
Bound in contemporary half calf. This is rarely complete with the 3 volumes of the New Series. ‘Comprehending Figures carefully coloured from Nature of Flowers, Fruits and Cryptogamia with descriptions thereof. Together with original Papers and Reviews on the Principles and Practice of Cultivation.’ Vol 1. 1833 through page 144 and Vol 2 1834 through page 189 with index pp i-iii bound together in one. Vol I (New series) 1836 through page 164 with index. Vol II (New Series) 1836 (for year 1835) through page 164 with index. Vol III (New Series) 1837 through page 194 with index all bound in one identifies as vols 3-4-5 on spine. 5 engraved titles, 164 engraved plates of specimens, all beautifully hand colored except for three diagrams. This was a monthly publication and each issue gas an average of thee plates with full descriptions. Some light foxing, occasional off-setting, green cloth a little rubbed, but otherwise in very good condition.
Volumes marked 1833, 1834, and 1836 all have the same brown leather calf binding with solid green endpapers, embossed details on both upper and lower boards and gilt details on the spines and turn ins as well as gilt edges.
Volume marked 1836 has three quarter calf binding with marbled boards, edges, and endpapers. Gilt details on the spine match the other volumes.
