5RR Sir Isaac Newton, translated by Andrew Motte, London, 1819. In three volumes.

Notes

The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy (often referred to as Principia), written by Sir Isaac Newton and first published in 1687, is one of the most influential works in the history of science. In this groundbreaking book, Newton laid the foundations for classical mechanics by formulating the laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation, which explained how objects move and interact with one another in both terrestrial and celestial contexts. The work is divided into three books: the first dealing with the motion of bodies, the second with the motion of planets and comets, and the third exploring the system of the world, or the broader implications of Newton's theories. Principia not only revolutionized the scientific understanding of the physical world but also set the stage for future developments in physics and astronomy, influencing countless scientists, including those who followed in Newton's footsteps, like Albert Einstein. Its impact on science, mathematics, and our understanding of the universe cannot be overstated.
