Notes
The Red Dragon, also known as Le Dragon Rouge or The Grand Grimoire, is one of the most infamous grimoires in Western occultism, dating back to the 18th or early 19th century. Purportedly based on older Solomonic traditions, it claims to reveal the secrets of summoning Lucifer and other demons to form pacts for wealth, power, and influence. The book outlines rituals involving specific tools, astrological timing, and invocations, often framed as instructions from the legendary magician Honorius. Despite—or because of—its diabolical reputation, the Red Dragon has had a lasting influence on European and Afro-Caribbean magical traditions, particularly within Haitian Vodou, where it is sometimes used in syncretic spiritual practices. It remains a symbol of forbidden knowledge and the allure of supernatural power through direct dealings with the infernal.
Divided into two main sections, the first book provides guidance on summoning demons and crafting tools to control them. The second book, divided into Sanctum Regnum and Secrets, delves deeper into the magic art. Sanctum Regnum offers methods for forming pacts with demons, granting control without the need for tools, albeit at greater risk. Meanwhile, Secrets unveils simpler spells and rituals to be utilized following the initial summoning ritual outlined in the first book.
Several versions of The Red Dragon exist with minor or significant differences. This is a new faithful English translation.
