Notes

The Works of Lord Byron showcase the brilliance of George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron (1788–1824), one of the most iconic poets of the Romantic era. Byron’s poetry is known for its emotional intensity, vivid imagery, and rebellious spirit. His works often explore themes of love, loss, nature, and existential angst, with a touch of biting satire and wit. Byron was also known for his exploration of the “Byronic hero”—a dark, brooding, and passionate figure who defies societal norms, epitomized in characters from works like Manfred and Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage.

Key works include Don Juan, a satirical epic that mixes humor and social commentary; The Corsair, a swashbuckling tale of adventure and romance; and Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage, a semi-autobiographical poem that reflects Byron’s own travels and disillusionment. His shorter lyrical poems, such as She Walks in Beauty and When We Two Parted, are beloved for their heartfelt beauty and emotional depth. Byron’s works remain celebrated for their artistry and for embodying the ideals of Romanticism while challenging societal conventions.
