Notes

Edited with a scrupulous revision of the text by Scholars on Shakespeare, Charles and Mary Cowden Clarke, The Works of William Shakespeare is a comprehensive collection of all the plays, sonnets, and poems written by the legendary English playwright and poet. Shakespeare (1564–1616) is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language and one of the world’s most influential dramatists. His works span a variety of genres, including tragedies, comedies, histories, and romances.

Notable plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream have not only shaped the English literary canon but have also had a profound impact on theater and culture worldwide. In addition to his plays, Shakespeare’s sonnets, which explore themes of love, time, beauty, and mortality, are celebrated for their lyrical beauty and intellectual depth.
